Onya Story
Onya Bags are the brain child of Jon Brousson, Director of Onya Bags®, in Freemantle, Western Australia. Troubled by the environmental impact of the proliferation of plastic bags, Jon, like many of us, committed himself to re-usable bags. Also like many of us, he found himself usually taking “green” bags to the store, but never really having one every time he needed one…. Sound familiar?
Thus, he set himself the task of creating a reusable bag that was as convenient as a plastic bag, but also attractive and desirable. In a moment of inspiration while lounging in his self-storing parachute-fabric hammock, Jon envisioned a strong and compact bag, complete with a clip to attach to his keys.
The Onya Bag was born. Convenient, attractive, desirable, strong and clipped “onya,” a revolution in re-usable bags was underway.
Trish Rickaby, Jon’s partner in life and full-time nurse, encouraged the development of Onya Bags. Now, she is a mother and full-time “Bag Lady”, as Onya Bags are spreading across the globe.
Now available across Australia, the United Kingdom and Ireland (via Jon’s brother Dan), Japan, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, Jon and Trish have turned a brilliant idea into a reality that has potentially eliminated the use of over 380,000,000 plastic bags!
I discovered Onya Bags while living in Bristol, England. I used my bags nearly every day for nearly every thing! In fact, I am still using my original Onya Bags two years later for life's needs, and they are as strong and durable as the day I bought them.
